DoorCodes FAQ

Quick answers before you email support.

This FAQ covers the most common DoorCodes questions around reminders, permissions, Secure Reveal, privacy behavior, and optional iCloud sync on iPhone and iPad.

Common Questions

Permissions, arrivals, and everyday use

These are the fastest answers for the most common launch-day support questions.

Why are my arrival reminders not firing?

For reliable background arrivals, DoorCodes needs both notification permission and Always location access. If either one is off, the app can still help you manually, but background arrival reminders may not happen.

Why does Nearby work when background arrivals do not?

Nearby can still sort and surface places with less permission, but background arrival monitoring depends on Always location access. If your device is set to When In Use, Nearby may look fine while background arrivals stay unavailable.

What permissions does DoorCodes actually use?

DoorCodes may use location for nearby sorting and optional arrival monitoring, notifications for privacy-safe reminders, device authentication for Secure Reveal, and iCloud only if you choose to turn on Cloud Sync.

Does DoorCodes show raw access codes on the lock screen?

No. DoorCodes is built around privacy-safe notifications and is not intended to expose raw access codes on the lock screen by default. You can also adjust notification privacy behavior in the app settings.

How does Secure Reveal work?

When Secure Reveal is enabled, protected codes can require Face ID, Touch ID, or device passcode authentication before they are revealed or copied. It is designed to keep sensitive access details from being too easy to expose in a quick glance.

How does Cloud Sync work?

Cloud Sync is optional. If you enable it, DoorCodes stores your data in your private iCloud account through Apple’s CloudKit services. If you leave it off, your data stays on-device unless you manually export or share it.

What is free, and what is DoorCodes Plus?

The free app supports up to 3 saved places, Secure Reveal, Nearby, Recents, manual access, and privacy-safe reminders. DoorCodes Plus is a one-time purchase that unlocks unlimited saved places and private iCloud sync across your own Apple devices.

Why is Cloud Sync part of DoorCodes Plus?

Cloud Sync is the ongoing, multi-device feature that needs extra engineering, testing, support, and App Store purchase infrastructure. Keeping it in Plus lets the core single-device access workflow stay free while giving heavy users a clear upgrade.

Is DoorCodes Plus a subscription?

No. DoorCodes Plus is currently offered as a one-time unlock. Restore Purchase is available in Settings and on the Plus screen if you reinstall the app or move to another device using the same Apple Account.

Does DoorCodes sell my data?

No. DoorCodes does not sell your saved places, access codes, or location data. Optional Cloud Sync uses your private iCloud account, and the app does not require a DoorCodes account to store your access details.

More Answers

Using DoorCodes day to day

These are the follow-up questions people usually have once the basics are covered.

Can I use DoorCodes without background arrivals?

Yes. You can still open the app manually, browse saved places, reveal codes, and use Nearby sorting without granting every background permission. Background arrival reminders are the part that need stronger location access.

Are Apple Watch, widgets, or Live Activity included?

No. This release is intentionally focused on the iPhone and iPad app. Apple Watch, widgets, and Live Activity are not part of the current public launch promise.

How do I delete my data?

You can edit or delete saved places and codes inside the app. If Cloud Sync is off, deleting the app may remove local data that is not backed up elsewhere. If Cloud Sync is on, synced records may remain in your private iCloud account until they are removed through the app or your iCloud data lifecycle.
